Cladding Installation Northampton
Cladding does two jobs at once, it changes how a property looks and it protects the wall behind it from the weather, and it only does the second job properly if it's fitted correctly. We install cladding on homes and commercial properties across Northampton and Milton Keynes, in composite, uPVC, timber and brick slip finishes, and we'll help you choose the right one rather than just fitting whatever you first asked about.
Why People Choose to Clad a Property
Refreshing the appearance of an ageing or tired-looking exterior without a full rebuild
Adding an extra layer of weather protection to walls exposed to driving rain or harsh conditions
Covering render or brickwork that's showing its age, cracking, or becoming expensive to keep maintaining
Improving thermal performance when cladding is combined with insulation, covered separately on our external wall insulation page
Choosing a Cladding Material
There's no single best material, it depends on your budget, how much maintenance you want to take on, and the look you're after. Composite cladding gives a low-maintenance, timber-effect finish without the upkeep real wood needs. uPVC is generally the most budget-friendly option and needs very little attention once fitted. Timber cladding gives the most authentic natural appearance but does need periodic treatment. Brick slip cladding replicates a traditional brick finish over a different wall build-up, often used where full brickwork isn't practical or affordable. Each of these has its own dedicated page with more detail if you already know roughly what you're after.
What Installation Involves
The detailing at joints, corners and openings matters more to how a cladding job performs than the material choice itself. A well-fitted budget cladding will outperform a premium material installed carelessly, which is why we spend the time getting this right rather than rushing to the next job.
A survey of the existing wall to check it's suitable for the chosen cladding system and identify any repairs needed first
Fitting a batten or support system to the wall, allowing for proper ventilation behind the cladding where the system requires it
Installing a breather membrane where appropriate, to manage moisture and prevent it becoming trapped against the original wall
Fitting the cladding itself, with careful attention to corners, openings and junctions where most water ingress problems eventually show up
Finishing trims and detailing around windows, doors and the roofline
Why Choose Bridgework
Honest material advice based on your budget and maintenance preferences, not just what's easiest for us to fit
Proper attention to ventilation, membranes and detailing, not just the visible finish
One point of contact from the initial survey through to the finished job
A clear quote before any work starts

Cladding Installation FAQs
uPVC and composite cladding both need very little upkeep beyond an occasional clean, compared with timber, which needs periodic treatment to stay protected against the weather.
For most homes, re-cladding an existing wall doesn't require planning permission, though this can vary for listed buildings, conservation areas, and in some cases where the cladding significantly changes the external appearance. We'll flag this during your survey if it applies to your property.
In many cases yes, provided the existing wall is sound and suitable for the batten and cladding system chosen. We'll assess this properly during the survey rather than assuming it's suitable.
Standard cladding on its own adds some weather protection but limited insulation value. If improving thermal performance is a priority, our external wall insulation and insulated render service is designed specifically for that.
